My first attempt at Blogging
Hello Bloggers out there in the four corners of reality!
My name is Ruben Natal Gutierrez from San Marcos, Texas 78666. This is my very first attempt at writing a Blog, and I am 73 years old; way past my prime. I was born September 11th, 1950 to mostly Mexican Migrant farm and field workers. I am a third generation Mexican American and I associate myself as "Chicano".
My granddaughter Alyssa Le'ann Gutierrez suggested that since I have been thoroughly institutionalized in The American System, that I should share some of my stories from time to time with people of kindred spirits out there in the stratosphere of The Blogging Realm.
Let me preface by saying that I have written to Newspaper Editors locally and submitted short stories to a Mexican Magazine named "El Caracol" in San Antonio, Texas back in 1978-'79 while I attended Austin Community College in Austin, Texas. I have been an activist in my own way and continue to write to Editors Opinion Page and speak to the important issues of our times. We do live, and continue to live, in desperate times.
Allow me to inject here sideways, that I personally know that whatever I say or speak about going forward with this new blogging endeavor, that the axiom spoken by King Solomon The Wise must be applied to me also, and that is, "There is nothing new under the sun". Whatever I say has been said before and done and it just so happened that it was said by someone else at some other place or time. Nonetheless however, I introduce a new painting and landscaping of a different space and time and person. Oh, I can't help myself sometimes, but whenever I write; many names of authors come to my mind as I write. Just like I had to mention and give credit to King Solomon and his proverb, I have to credit Charles Dickens, The Tale of Two Cities. "Because these are the best of times, and yet they are the worst of times." And that is basically the yarn that I will try to move forward with as far as content goes for this page.
For those who have attended Higher Education, you will understand that the whole idea for attending Universities was so that you would become a mind of The Universe. And that you would contribute to better our world, especially your hometown. And for those with no College education, don't worry, I dropped out in the sixth grade with Jethro! From there I can tell you that fate and destiny propelled me out of my comfort zone into a time just as the curtains were closing on World War II, and the residues of The Great Depression. A new Chapter was being introduced about America that oozed with economic prosperity for some. From that point in time..., begins my personal saga of fighting for survival in the midst of so much inequality and inequity.
Like I stated earlier, it was the best of times, yet the worst of times. And although we were poor financially, my family was rich in love. I have always aspired to be a writer of books; and I have aspired to be somebody special. However my character flaws have hindered most of my dreams. And it's these faults in character that have been obstacles to my life dreams. Nevertheless, I believe in the Redemption story, oh yes I do. And in closing, let me say. I am a dreamer of dreams.
Remember, that what I say to you now, I have stated in other forms in other places. I love to tell my dreams. And in one dream years back, I heard some voice say to me this, "There is always a big but on the road." Do you see, you thought life was over, you thought that you could not live without this or that: And you thought there is nothing to explore out there anymore. "But!!!"
Good night guys, let's sleep on that. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Ruben Natal Gutierrez
