Frame of Reference

To the Hunters and Seekers out there, it was sometime during 1994 that I decided to hunt for ancient stone artifacts that had been created by Indigenous Native peoples of prehistoric America right here in Central Texas. But after having researched this topic about the Indians and their history according to the great academic Institutions of Texas and The United States, all American Educational books on this subjected stated that The Indians did not have the Intellectual capacity nor the time and or inclination to create such works of art such as stone sculptures. The above kind and polite euphemistic language used by the American Academics was simply saying that Injuns were completely stupid and a bunch of uncivilized barbaric savages incapable of such rich and refined works of art! And as I read further I was discouraged immensely by these White peoples findings. I thought that all prehistoric people from all over the world created art. And since I had also read in the Bible that "God" created all people with the inclination to create art, I thought that all I needed from our history about Indian artwork in stone besides tools and weapons, was pictures from our Natural Scientist as a frame of reference and I was good to go on my hunt. Instead however, I read that our Injuns were savages and barbarians and didn't care nor had the time to stop and want to create a picture of grandma or grandpa in bone or tree trunk, or stone, regardless of how crude the outcome. And I just couldn't believe what I was reading! So I called our Texas Historical Society in Austin; The Smithsonian also, and finally Michael B. Collins, Thomas Hester, and many other local archeologists, but they all repeated what was written in the books. So I asked all of them, "So there are no pictures of any findings for prehistoric stone sculpture at all in The United States?" And they all said, there was none. Then I asked myself, "Ruben, what the hell are you gonna be looking for out there if there are no pictures to go by? Shit! Tip can't get the ball if he don't know what a ball is?" So I decided to go and research other Countries ancient stone sculptures and felt more confused because it was hard to grasp the differences between those culture's art. And then I had to learn about what the art meant and signified symbolically. And along with the studies of ancient stone art of other Countries, I also had to study the legalities that protect such art in Texas and U. S.. Therefore, I believed that would suffice and took off in search of these artifacts. As I said, I did learned about all the legalities surrounding searching for artifacts, but I wasn't searching for arrowheads anymore. I never dig for these items either, I followed the Building Developers all around Central Texas in their maddening race to build and build without consideration for anything but the money to be made from it. And as the developers began clearing lands for new housing and new construction I would always ask the construction guys if I could pick up some rocks there after they were not working and they always told me this, "Pick all the .ucking rocks you want, that will make less work for us." So this is where my hunts began. And the authorities couldn't say anything to me about my search for ancient stone sculpture because they themselves said that it didn't exist. Well, picture "Tukco" from The Good The Bad and The Ugly, when he starts to hunt for the unnamed grave in a massive cemetery that hides the gold. And he doesn't have but minutes before Blondie shows up to beat him to the find. Well, that was me out there in Central Texas, looking for something that I didn't even know what it looked like. It took me about a year to begin to see patterns in the rocks that were not naturally cut or flaked. Believe or not, I went and took a short course in producing and recreating arrowheads to see how it was done by prehistoric people just to help me see differences in rocks that are nature cut and human cut. I did it because I wanted to differentiate between the natural geological geofact art and the manmade art. I remember that I had headaches and felt my eyes had gone crossed because of millions of rocks that I had to examine. This endeavor was frustrating and hard for me. I felt like that old gold miner that dug in a mine for 30 years all by himself and a pack donkey and found nothing. And as the years went by people laughed at me as they watched me take off in my old beat up Chevy Silverado truck on the weekends, and for spending money on my hunts. And as I searched I would wonder why didn't The Indians contest this offensive derogatory racist claim by the Academics? I wondered to myself, "Why did they just do nothing to change this evil scientific conclusion?" As I hunted by myself out there through all kinds of weather, and as I walked many many miles, many questions popped up in my mind about why just across the Mexican Border 300 miles away, Injuns there created works of art in stone sculpture but not here? And I wondered, how did Indians get here to the Americas in the first place? And who are these people anyway? So, I am constantly researching, as I continue to do now; not only about Ancient  Art , but about my Bible studies, and other topics too. I remember reading years ago that the people at The Smithsonian did believe later in time here that the Indians were descended from advanced civilizations and were worthy of respect. But, this same Institution also claimed and promoted the idea that the American Indians were Isolationist and hence didn't make contact with other people of other nearby areas. However, in this reading I remember that The Smithsonian claimed that there was no archeological evidence of what they called Diffusionism; that is the idea that American prehistoric people came from other regions of the world or places. Therefore, they suppressed all artifacts that would suggest that there has always been a widespread dispersion of culture and civilization via contact by ship and major trade routes. So, as I thought about where did these so-called Indians come from, my answer was in The Bible. These are remnants of people that were forcefully scattered by "God." Yes!, I believe that there were other reasons for the migrations, but it is true that all these people in America whether in the past or now came here from all over the World; most likely Asia and India, just like migrants are coming here now. Hence, why did The American Government and The Indians not say anything about this concept for Diffusionism? Did The Indians resign themselves to agree with this lie about Isolationism for political reasons and left us out of the Loop? Nevertheless, I did find the Stone Sculpted Art here in Texas. And if a Dummy can find it, why couldn't the Indians or the Experts? Well, as I close this letter I want to say that our prehistoric stone art in Central Texas is the same as in Old Mexico, South America, and the World. The images are condensed and compressed in one rock or stone. The symbols are of these ancient peoples' deities or chiefs just like the ones in bone or tree Totems that one sees in pictures about American Indians. And also, during these years I read that this art is called "Compressed Semantics or Compressed Information." The art that I did find is Shamanistic art of course. And it took me a long time and a great deal of study to find this work of art and to understand it better.  And I started without a frame of reference for what I was looking for. And now The Smithsonian and other Academics in this field deny what I have found. One Archeologist here at our University in San Marcos told me that she could see what I saw but that nobody would believe me because I don't have Degrees or Credentials in this field. Yes, I know how Tukco felt when he just couldn't win. But I still  have a nagging question, why did The Indians never argue against this outrageous claim against them knowing that they know their own history better than us? Shit, they know the mysteries of The Kokopellis and so much more, how can they say they can't decipher ancient stone sculpture? I told you, Truth is dangerous! But I have  learned since I was young that everybody deserves the Benefit of Doubt. And I learned from The Bible also just like Plato did, because he described in the book Timaeus the following, ' There have been, and will be again many destructions of mankind...and leaves only those of you who are destitute of letters and education; and as you have to begin again like children, and know nothing of what happened in the ancient times.' Doesn't that sound like what happens after Wars and the conqueror kills off all the Priest and Intellects of that surviving conquered people and leave to be reprogrammed and indoctrinated into a new system for surviving the... under educated ones only. Well, that describes me too. And someone else said this too about learning or not learning, 'They hide history in order to reduce the populace to ignorance.' And therefore, easier to control. Well,  let us sleep on that and perhaps history is not your thing, but it is mine. And it feels good to hunt for something no one seems to care about and find it. But, my find did not help me appreciate that religion that was being practiced by these people on both sides because their foundations of gold and sunshine were built on great lies. Thanks again.                                                                                                                  Respectfully,                                                                                     Ruben N. Gutierrez
