Infantry...Queen of Battles!!!

Bloggers, the Infantryman has one of the roughest jobs in any Military. I know that all Combat Occupations are rough and tough too, but, The Infantry stands alone in the category of The Militaries Killing Machines. Their jobs are not only dangerous, but they are Miserable. In the 1970's when I was in, The Infantry life was a very difficult and hard life for anyone in this field. Especially if the soldier was married and had family of his own. Life in this Department was for the most part a lonely life and sleepless nights. It was constant training around the clock and spending lots of time in extreme weather and terrain. Living a life of Danger in the Infantry, Airborne, or Ranger, was an understatement in this occupation. In War the conditions were worst than the training. One's life was literally on the line constantly. And to think that the majority in this field of work love it, and looked forward anxiously to facing the enemy face to face. Many of these guys were Patriotic Killers! They lived for the hunt. Tired, filthy, exhausted, hungry, lonely, in severe pain, these Infantrymen sacrificed everything for the Military and their way of life. That is why they were respected above all other Military Occupational Skills. All soldiers seem to understand whether they accept it or not, That the Infantry is Where The Glory Is! They are the ground pounders, the Military's well oiled killing machine..., The Grunts! However, in 1973 I remember that the American Military went into what is now called the "All Volunteer Army" and did away with The U.S. Draft. And I remember that I was based at Ft. Hood, Texas at that time. And the Army started a New Program and started to integrate Female soldiers into the same barracks with male soldiers, but in separate rooms. However, this was not happening to the Combat Units, and not especially to the Infantry Units. Well, not while I was there; and I was there until 1976. But there was talk about whether to allow women in the Infantry even back then. And that went on as a moral and ethical philosophical argument but I left and lost track of that proposal for a while. Nevertheless, the Issue was on the National News often for years after also. Then, I was at the Barbershop a couple of weeks ago and we talked about this topic for awhile. And a Veteran there said to me that the U. S. Military had officially allowed women to serve in the Infantry. Then I was Shocked and wanted to know more about this strange turn of events. I never thought that I would see this happen in the U.S. Army. But, in 2017 this event really and truly happened. And The U.S. Marines were the last to resist this American Political effort but our American Politicians have got their way. So now young and middle aged females are in the Infantry! I have read and heard now from some skeptics who have witness the females in training and action, and they have there serious doubts about this new Military Program for allowing females into this extremely harsh disciple called the Infantry. And they don't like the easier way the Infantry training is for the women today. Yet others say that the females are up to the task of performing combat duties and that they perform well and are capable and equal to the man's capabilities in the Infantry. I don't know what is true in either event about these females in Combat because I never witness any female training with us back in the 1970's. All I know is that many young strong men bailed out on us and headed for the Hills and they couldn't hack the extreme disciple and training for this Professional Occupation. Others tried extremely hard to make it, but didn't. I saw some young Patriotic men try hard and died in training. Therefore, I don't know how to judge this. But, I will give these young brave girls who dare join the Infantry Knowingly and Intentionally a great deal of credit for giving it their best go at it. The Man's World is an Extremely Violent One, and the Wisest and Strongest do Survive. However, sometimes Fortune does smile on a person, without respect to color of skin or gender. History will prove this to be true. The great Deborah and even Tamaris are legends in their own right for not being afraid of War. And I say that... may Fortune smile on these young Brave American Girls in The Infantry now who have more Intestinal fortitude than some men who shy away from danger. But, I still hold to my reservations about this great change in the U.S. Military regarding females in the Infantry because in War and Combat, it gets extremely bloody and messy. And if we listen to the World News today, Israel is about to open the door to World War Three. And I just couldn't stand watching girls go out that way. So, here I will close with that, and say Let Us sleep On That for now. And more Power to the Christian Women that Fill The House of God Almighty in the U.S. than men do! They also have more Loyalty and Dedication; and Intestinal Fortitude for serving God than men do. Anyone that stands to face The Meat Grinder in motion in front of us in war everyday has to have Courage! Thanks again.                                                                                                                              Respectfully,                                                                                                                                            Ruben N.
